RARE CASK BLACK SINGLE MALT WHISKY

    SCOTLAND

This whisky tells a different story of The Macallan spirit and casks, but more than that it tells a story of rarity. Less than 100 casks maturing at The Macallan distillery have contributed to the creation of this out of character whisky. These mysterious casks remained untouched in the dark warehouses of The Macallan under the watchful eye of our Master Whisky Maker, until he felt they were ready to be released.

Smoky Macallan is rare – there is very little in existence – and once used these casks will be no more. Unexpected and distinctive in flavour with full bodied richness from the Macallan spirit, Rare Cask Black is an unusual smoky spirit that tells a story of creativity and innovation.

    APPEARANCE

    Autumnal leaves.

    AROMA

Intense flavour from a timeless thread of peat smoke. A beautiful combination of dried fruits, nutmeg, ginger and beautifully polished oak plus dates, figs and raisins, heavy but sweet.

    PALATE

A dry smokiness reveals itself yielding to softer oak tones.

Long and fruity with an elegant wood smoke.

  • THE MACALLAN

    OSCURO SINGLE MALT WHISKY

    SCOTLAND

The Macallan Oscuro is drawn exclusively from oak casks seasoned with Oloroso Sherry. An exceptionally high proportion of these are first fill, which endow the whisky with a rich, deep colour and intense flavour.
When the casks are at the peak of maturation, the whisky is gently reduced to 46.5% alcohol by volume with natural spring water drawn from boreholes deep under The Macallan Estate. It is then matured in slumbering casks for at least six months, allowing the flavours to ‘marry’ and harmonise. It undergoes no further strength reduction and is non-chill filtered at ambient room temperature before being bottled for your enjoyment.

    APPEARANCE

    Burnished copper.

    AROMA

Ripened woodland fruits, dark chocolate, orange, creamy vanilla.

    PALATE

  • THE BALVENIE

14 YO PEAT WEEK SINGLE MALT WHISKY

    SCOTLAND

The Balvenie Peated Triple Cask Aged 14 Years is the result of trials undertaken in 2001 by The Balvenie Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE and our former distillery manager Ian Millar.

The trials were started at a time when few Scottish distilleries were producing any whisky at all due to a slowdown in the Scotch industry.  It was Ian’s drive to innovate and David’s need to create new flavours that lay the foundations for future whiskies with peated malt. Our peated whiskies are a testament to the freedom we enjoy as a family company and show The Balvenie in an unexpected way, but remain true to our distillery style.

The Balvenie Peated Triple Cask Aged 14 Years is non-chill filtered, bottled at 48.3% ABV and launched exclusively to travel retail in June 2017. The whisky is our first release made from 100% peated malt and was aged in three traditional cask types – first-fill bourbon, refill bourbon and sherry, resulting in exceptional smoky sweet notes with cinnamon and ginger spiciness.

Never emptied, and kept half full of whiskies since 1998, our Solera Vat is the culmination of curious minds and the pioneering spirit of our family. It’s also the secret behind this whisky becoming the first 15 year old expression to enter the top ten best selling single malts.

  • BRUICHLADDICH

THE LADDIE EIGHT 8YO SINGLE MALT WHISKY

    SCOTLAND

This is perfectly illustrated in the unpeated ‘Laddie Eight’, the latest exclusive for GTR released by head distiller Adam Hannett. Adam’s aim with this vatting is to preserve the elegant, floral notes of the vibrant young spirit while building up the signature salty, citrus tang so characteristic of Bruichladdich. Eight years maturation in our warehouses on the shores of Loch Indaal have perfected a graceful single malt that relates to a very modern craftsmanship.

    APPEARANCE

An elegant expression of Bruichladdich style. Super fruity and full of Atlantic freshness. Lemon marmalade color.

    AROMA

The opening notes are of fresh fruit, typical apple and pear slightly under ripe so characteristic of our spirit. Then pear drops apricot and pineapple in fruit syrup rise in the next wave. Vanilla oak is not far behind rolled in malted barley sugar and with a hint of straw. After a moment of warming the glass in your hand the floral tones of gorse and honeysuckle come through. The longer the whisky has to breathe the more you will find on the nose.

    PALATE

Spice gives way to sweetness as a pepperiness on the lips becomes mango and peach. Layer upon layer of oak from the variation of casks used to create this dram gives vanilla, lemon, honey, toffee and a creamy buttery texture and mouth feel. A second taste will bring hints of fruit, raspberry and strawberry for sure and a touch of citrus and orange marmalade. the complexity is a joy to taste as each style of toasting or charring of the barrels plays its part in bringing a depth of flavour you will be eager to explore. This dram has vitality, depth and mellow-ness all at once as the classic Bruichladdich DNA of soft fruit and floral elegance mix with exotic fruit from such a variety of amazing oak. The quality of our Scottish malted barley is evident as the sweet malt sugar holds all the fruit and oak together in wondrous harmony.

    FINISH

Fresh sea breeze, sweet floral heather honey and citrus bring this dram to a close, but like a typical island good-bye it’s not cheerio straight away, there is still a word or two to be had as the finish extends into the night with a long lasting vanilla note that doesn’t seem to end.

BOWMORE 18 YEAR OLD One of a trio of released from the legendary Bowmore distillery on the Isle of Islay, showing off how wine-cask finishes interact with their smoky, coastal single malt. • THE GLENLIVET

12 YO EXCELLENCE SINGLE MALT WHISKY

    SCOTLAND

HISTORY: Founded by George Smith, The Glenlivet has been crafted in the remote Livet Valley, at the heart of Scotland’s Speyside region, since 1824. Initially, George Smith was a farmer who used to have illicit stills. In 1824, he founded the first legal distillery in the parish of Glenlivet, thus legalising the already famous illicit whisky from Scotland. He went on to establish the brand’s reputation as the best whisky on the market. In 1884, a court ruling officially gave George Smith’s single malt the exclusive right to be called The Glenlivet. At the start of the 20th century, The Glenlivet became the favourite whisky for enthusiasts throughout the British Empire. Following the end of Prohibition in the United States, its reputation grew in America, with The Glenlivet quickly becoming the No.1 single malt in the USA – a position it continues to enjoy today. KNOW-HOW The Glenlivet owes its unique taste to a number of specific factors relating to its production and location. Indeed, the distillery is located in the Cairngorms National Park, at over 270 metres above sea level. According to weather records, it is considered to be the coldest place in Britain, characterised by strong winds and heavy snowfalls in winter. Water is drawn from Josie’s Well, a source of hard mineral water, which enables complex aromas to develop during the distillation process. Then, the lantern-shaped stills used for distilling give the spirit its outstanding balance and strong character. Lastly, a careful ageing process, particularly in American oak casks, gives The Glenlivet its full flavour. An echo of George Smith’s original classic with a note of pineapple. Aged in a variety of cask types, including American oak for an amount of time, this whisky acquires a vanilla note and smoothness.

    APPEARANCE

    Bright and lively golden color.

    AROMA

Exquisite delicacy of summer fragrances, with playful interlacing of floral and fruity aromas. A sensual touch of exotic fruit, notably pineapple.

    PALATE

Floral honey in every sense. A flowing silky texture on the tongue. Soft and sweet notes of peach and pear sauteed in vanilla syrup. Final Marzipan and fresh hazelnuts followed by a gentle and aromatic ginger.

  • THE ARDMORE

    SINGLE MALT WHISKY

    SCOTLAND

Established by Adam Teacher in 1898, son of the Glasgow whisky entrepreneur William Teacher, the Ardmore distillery was created to provide a core single malt whisky for their growing and now world famous blended whisky, Teacher’s® Highland Cream.

Recognizing the wide acclaim of the Ardmore Distillery’s single malt amongst whisky aficionados and an increase in consumer demand, the distillery released its first ever widely available single malt—Ardmore® Traditional Cask.

Although labor and time intensive, the process of Quarter Cask maturation allows much greater contact between the maturing spirit and the oak of the cask. When combined with the full, but relatively light peating of Ardmore, this creates an extraordinary malt whisky that has a well-rounded flavor, a unique peat-smoke richness softened by a delicate sweetness.

    THE ARDMORE LEGACY

Released in 2014 to take the place of the Ardmore Traditional, the Legacy brings a lightly-peated, wood spice-led flavour profile to the table. At its core, the Ardmore Legacy is made with 80% peated and 20% unpeated malt.

    APPEARANCE

    Light honey

    AROMA

It leans more on the savoury than the sweet side of things, with light barbecue char and earthy notes up-front. Sweet cinnamon, fresh honey and vanilla toffee waft up at points.
